Request Library Instruction

The most effective form of library education is course-related instruction. Upon request, reference librarians will instruct students in how to effectively search the literature. The use of indexes, abstracts, the online catalogs, other resources, access tools and systems can be provided.

Instruction will be geared to the course being taught. When possible, library instruction should be scheduled close to the time students will be required to locate information, compile bibliographies or write research papers. This form of instruction is generally more meaningful as students are apt to learn what they need to complete an immediate assignment. If students do not have an immediate need, the reference staff will develop subject specific exercises as part of the class.
